One reason for this is that oil is a natural high-efficiency fuel, producing 12% more BTU's than natural gas, and 261% more BTU's than electricity, dollar for dollar.

In fact, according to the U.S. Department of Energy, heating with oil is 16% more efficient than heating with natural gas. So replacing an oil heating system 15 years of age or older with a new oil heating system really makes sense.
